We just celebrated our wedding in Castle Durrow. Dinner with our bridal party on Friday, wedding on Saturday and a BBQ on Sunday. Best 3 days of our lives so far. In our eyes Castle Durrow has to be one of the best wedding venues in the world.
The castle is absolutely beautiful. The rooms are decorated so tastefully, the views are breathtaking and gardens spectacular. We couldn't recommend it highly enough to anyone planning a wedding in Ireland.

Thank you just doesn't quite cover what we would like to express to you and all the team at Castle Durrow for THE most amazing weekend of our lives. It was just perfect from start to finish. We really can't thank you enough.

If I was a better person, I'd give a million stars on Trip Advisor, but we kind of want to keep the gorgeous place a quiet secret to ourselves so we can come back year after year and experience exactly what we had this weekend.

I recently got married and we had our reception at Castle Durrow!

We stayed Thursday night in CD to enjoy an intimate dinner, and the morning of the wedding as well.

I should start by saying that Marie Laffin is the wedding co-ordinator in the Castle. I am quite an organised person (meticulous with details) and I would have very ‘high’ standards, but I certainly met my match with Marie!

We booked our wedding in January 2014 and even the small details I had spoken about then, she had remembered those small things. Marie is worth her weight in gold to Castle Durrow and I’m sure it’s not the first or last time they will hear that.

On Thursday I arrived at CD early to complete some DIY wedding décor and everything (that I had brought to CD the week before) was laid out for me by the staff and I couldn’t have received any more help than I did. Susanne and Lilly went out of there way to give me any support I needed. I had set aside a certain amount of time for these DIY jobs and with these ladies help; I had loads of time to spare. They are a credit to Castle Durrow!

A group of 30 of our family + friends stayed on the Thursday, the night before the wedding and we had an intimate dinner in one of CD’s fabulous private dining rooms. The 3 course meal was outstanding and the service was unbelievable! The 2 night package that Marie Laffin put together for us was such good value for all our guests and us.

As there was no other wedding on the Thursday night, I got to stay in the beautiful bridal suite and then get ready in that room with my sisters and mam.

We had breakfast, I asked for ‘French Toast’ and it was amazing food and service!

Then all the girls had the best morning in the spacious bridal suite, getting beautiful. Both the make-up artist and the hair ‘magician’ did their thing and we all had such a lovely and stress free morning!

Shelly and Co. arrived at 10.30am with bubbly and OJ to settle any nerves and again later with scones and tea/coffee for the growing posse. In total there were 12 to 15 people coming and going from the bridal suite (inc photographer, videographer etc) but it never felt full or over run. The room was functional but also beautiful for the photos.

After getting married in a nearby church, I returned to CD at 3pm and I mean when I say that I had absolutely NO stress at all from this moment forward is not an exaggeration!!
We had a few guests cancel due to unforseen circumstances and it was not a problem, I literally mentioned it and it was taken care of.

CD provided us with a personal cocktail reception (2 different cocktails – cosmo’s + mojito’s) and delicate canapés. I’ve had lots of feedback from many of our 170 guests that the drinks and food was plentiful. I was told that ‘as soon as I left down my glass, another was put into my hand’. I was also told that the bar staff would remember the drink you had ordered and they felt like ‘locals’. And just on that, myself and John were constantly offered and handed drinks throughout the whole day and night.

We originally chose CD as a wedding venue because we loved the old castle and rooms but when we viewed the ‘wedding breakfast’ room/banqueting hall it was a nail in the coffin to our other venuechoices. I loved that it was all wooden floors (no carpet in sight) and there are no pillars to obscure anyone’s view. The bar is small but perfectly formed and the bar staff made all our guests feel welcome. They were nothing only professional, ‘good craic’ and kind to all our guests! (This isn’t easy with 170 drunkish people) 

We asked CD about doing a ‘sharing plate’ for starter and dessert as part of our wedding meal as it was a ‘love’ concept we were going towards and this was never an issue. Staff even seemed excited about doing something new for us!
I should mention our menu tasting back in February. Part of the‘wedding menu tasting’ is that you stay in CD . We stayed in a beautiful suite and we had to be rolled to our car to leave. Between the tasting meal and breakfast the following morning, my only concern about the food in CD was that my dress would no longer fit!!

Our 6 course wedding meal was outstanding, the starter sharing plate, the curried carrot and coconut soup, the lime sorbet, the choice of main course and the sharing dessert pate. It was incredible, it really was.
‘Lilly’ was serving us during our wedding meal; she knew John and I were a little nervous as we were both preparing for our speeches. She kept us light hearted and calm. She topped up our drinks and anything we needed or wanted, she went out of her way to support us.
Just a little note about my main course; I had ordered the fillet steak (for the menu tasting, John refused to share it as it was ‘too’ nice) so I ordered my own and I was even asked how id like it cooked. John was rite not to share as it was a ‘like chocolate’; it was exceptional, nothing short of perfect!
But what I didn’t know was that all guests that also ordered the fillet (120 of our 170 guests) were asked how they would like it cooked. That is no easy feat!! When being served there wasn’t a whisper as each staff knew how each guest had requested the fillet and simply placed the steak in front of them and only confirmed what was on the plate. Now that’s impressive!!

After dinner John and I decided that a ‘champagne’ toast was not for us! Neither of us drinks champagne but we do drink ‘shots’!! We spoke to Marie about this and after working out a few logistics, she made it happen for us! So we toasted our guests with shots of ‘sambuca’, this was very personal to us and credit to the bar staff at CD for facilitating this.

The moving of some tables seemed seamless and took no length of time. The dancing began and the night was full of fun!
Another little note – I was wearing gold long ‘drop’ earrings, one of which was broken off during the vigorous dancing! I mentioned it to ‘Lilly’, that if anyone found it while sweeping the floor etc but that I knew it was properly a long shot! Well I wasn’t in the residents bar long, when ‘Lilly’ arrived in with the half of my earring in tow! I was delighted to say the least and it definitely deserves a mention as I’ve a feeling that she was down on her hands and knee’s searching for it. When I say she couldn’t have done any more for us, she really and truly couldn’t.

To finish John and I would like to thank everyone at Castle Durrow, we really did have the best time! What’s more satisfying is that we both know how much our guests enjoyed our day, and we certainly owe Castle Durrow and its staff for this. We have amazing memories and we will never forget our experience with Castle Durrow.
