Real Wedding: Brian & Leona’s Station House Wedding
Nothing like a Real Wedding to give you some inspiration for your own Big Day. Brian and Leona had one of those rare wonderful days in Ireland where the sun was shining and it was possible to have their wedding ceremony in the stunning surrounds of The Station House Hotel. The day was one of fun, laughter and banter as well as sunshine and captured by Suzanne Thompson of Circus Photography whose photos will hopefully inspire you to plan your own garden ceremony (albeit you may want to get burying that Child of Prague statue though….).
Tell us a little about yourself and your other (better?) half…
I’m from Dublin and run the family business and Leona is from Monaghan and is a Manager for Dunnes Stores retail. We met on a night out in Break for the border and have been inseparable ever since. We recently moved back to the southside where I grew up around the same time we got married so its been a very hectic but great few years
Tell us about the proposal…
It was spur of the moment, I had been kinda of planning it, but we were cleaning the apartment we were moving out of and I just decided then and there to do it. I snook off to the jewellers across the way and picked up ring, a bottle of champagne and food for a picnic. Told her it was a lovely day that we would head up to Howth for a break from the cleaning. I found a spot on the cliff edge overlooking the irish sea and got down on one knee, she had no idea and thankfully said yes
What was your favourite part of planning the wedding?
Letting her do it.
What did you do for your stag party?
Went to Athlone on a golfing trip, have to say Athlone is a great spot had never been there before.
What did you wear on The Day?
Navy suit that Leona helped me pick out.
Any funny stories from the wedding (that can be shared in public!)?
Normally the bride keeps the groom waiting but I had forgotten the ribbon for the hand fasting ceremony so she had to wait for me at the top of the aisle as my best man went back to the car to get it. Let’s just say she wasn’t impressed 😉
How did you find writing and giving the speech?
Not to bad I did the best man speech before and that’s A LOT harder but all I have to do was speak from the heart about how great she is and our families are.
What 3 tips would you give to another groom…
1. Marry a country girl
2. Get out of their way and agree with everything when is comes to planning the wedding
3. Enjoy the day as it goes by to fast and pace yourself when it comes to drink, also get a videoman as well as you miss so much on the day
Tell us about the honeymoon…
We went to Vegas for 3 nights and stayed in WYNN hotel overlooking the strip, we went to 2 Cirque Du Soleil shows which were amazing. Then we rented a Mustang and drove to San Diego for 2 nights (which is a great spot). We then drove up the coast to LA for 2 night and did all the tourist attractions. We got a flight to Cancun and stayed in the most amazing 5 Star resort the Secrets Marmoma for 7 nights. We then flew to Toronto for 3 nights and went to Niagara Falls which is where my parents honeymooned 45yrs ago. Have to say it was the best 3 weeks of my life.
