What to Write in Your Wedding Thank You Cards

Jun 7, 2017 | The Big Day

Are wedding thank you cards an unnecessary wedding task? We would argue no. Yes, you probably thanked people for coming on your wedding day, but think how little time you spent with individual guests throughout the day.

People understand, but if they drove three hours or boarded a flight to help you celebrate, it’s nice to acknowledge the effort. Hell, even if they just had to walk five minutes down the road, they still made time to help you celebrate and deserve a card that takes less than a minute to write.

Send to Everyone…

….not just the people who gave you presents. Not bringing a gift may seem rude, but keep in mind that just attending a wedding can be very expensive for your guests. Factor in the amount of their transport, accommodation, babysitter money, day off work, etc before you judge and just be glad they showed up.

Personalise

You don’t have to write a brand new note every time, but do make a couple of alterations with each note. Mention their names (obviously), the gift they gave you or if it was a cash gift, what you intend to put it towards.

Don’t Wait Too Long

You don’t need to send thank you cards from your honeymoon suite, but there really isn’t an excuse to be sending them six months after the event. Have them sent out before the three-month mark.

No Gift…

Dear X,

Standard Message: Thanks for coming to our wedding! We had an amazing time and hope you did too.
We were so glad to see you there, although unfortunately, we didn’t get to spend as much one-on-one time with everyone as we would have liked. The day really was a whirlwind!

Thanks again for celebrating with us!
